Overview:
Young Adult Support Programme is a five week construction training course. Learners will undergo a range of training in Joinery, Bricklaying, Plumbing and Plastering. Learners will achieve the City and Guilds Level 1 Qualification in Basic Construction Skills and CSCS card.
Training will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays, 9 - 4pm.
Eligibility
- Aged 19 – 24
- You may be in part time employment (no more than 16 hours)
- You must not have a NVQ Level 2 or equivalent
- You must not be claiming Incapacity Benefit
- You must not be enrolled at a college or other training programme

Tutors:
Craig Derwin
Craig is a fully qualified bricklayer with more than 16 years experience. He has a wealth of knowledge and expertise that has been gained through working on a wide range of varied projects. Craig joined Llite in 2010 and has also started to deliver Ground Works courses. Craig has achieved a number of qualifications during his career:
- NVQ Level 1 in Brickwork
- NVQ Level 2 in Brickwork
- NVQ Level 3 in Brickwork
- 7307/02 Further Education Teaching Certificate

Mike Hodgins
Mike has been a joiner for the last 13 years. Prior to joining Llite in 2008 he spent some time manufacturing and repairing static caravans and was a site joiner in the Armed Forces. Mike is a highly qualified tutor having gained the following qualifications:
- NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry and Joinery
- PTLLS
- IPAF Scissor Lift Certificate
- A1 Assessor Award
- City & Guilds A1 L Units
- Professional Dicussion Certificate
- CSCS Card
- City & Guilds power Tool Instructors Course
- Adult Literacy and Numeracy Level 2

Paul Newton
Paul is one of Llite's plastering tutors who has more than 25 years experience in the trade. He went straight on site at the age of 16, working with his father as an apprentice plasterer. He has spent his whole working life as in plastering and has learnt every aspect of the trade. Prior to joining Llite in 2008 he worked extensively on renovations and new-builds. Paul holds a number of qualifications:
- City and Guilds in Plastering
- City & Guilds Advanced Craft Plastering (Solid and Fibrous)
- City & Guilds L Units
- PTLLS
- Currently working towards City & Guilds A1 Assessor Award

Trade Areas:
Bricklaying
Bricklaying courses are popular at Llite. Clients learn a wide range of skills in fully equipped workshops including:
- Floor Screeding.
- Half Brick wall racking back.
- Working with walls in stretcher bond.
- Half brick corner in stretcher bond.
- One brick wall in English bond.
- One brick wall with brick on edge capping.
- Building a BBQ.
- Paving and Block Paving.
Training programmes have been designed by our Tutors to recreate ‘real world’ scenarios that are transferable to the workplace. Training is City and Guilds accredited.

Joinery
Llite’s Joinery programme attracts a large number of people who benefit from training with our experienced, time-served tutors. All joinery training is carried out in fully equipped workshops. Whilst training at Llite clients learn the following skills:
- Introduction to hand and power tools
- Door linings
- Hanging doors and fitting furniture
- Fitting locks and door handles
- Mouldings, fitting skirting and architrave
- Fitting kitchen units
Llite’s joinery programme has been specifically designed by our Tutors in order to equip clients with everything a modern day joiner needs to secure sustainable employment. Training is City and Guilds accredited.

Plastering
Llite has a range of plastering courses available for unemployed people, individuals and private companies. During the training period clients learn the following skills that can be transferred to the workplace or home:
- Application of a sand and lime scratch and floating coat (render).
- Applying finish plaster to backing coats.
- Plaster Patching, in both solid and stud wall.
- Direct Bonding (dot and dab), applying finish plaster to a plasterboard background.
- Coving.
- Re-skim over artex.
- Applying finish coats to old plaster work.
- Cutting and Fixing plasterboard.
Training programmes have been designed by our Tutors and include ‘real world’ activities as well as being City and Guilds accredited.

Plumbing
Llite deliver introduction to plumbing courses that allow clients to build a basic knowledge of the trade including:
- None manipulative compression filling
- Copper pipe bending and jointing capillary joints
- Transferring levels using spirit level and water level
- Remove and refit a water filled radiator
- Use of plastic materials for plumbing utility sink waste
Working in a number of real world scenarios Llite’s plumbing course is ideal for people who want to expand their knowledge and develop a wide range of practical skills.
